Focus on Wellness rather than Weight Loss

At The 101 we place a high importance on the wellness of our team members and residents. We believe that physical and mental health are key to a happy work environment for our team members and a happy home for our residents.

It’s no surprise that weight loss is consistently the number one New Year’s resolution.  It may surprise you, however, that a measly eight percent of people who make a resolution are actually successful (Forbes).

Weight loss is a daunting goal. Rather than overwhelming yourself with the pressure of such a drastic change, break your overall goal up into smaller achievements that will set you on a healthier path and ultimately inspire long term change. Rather than focusing solely on weight loss, focus instead on overall wellness.

Here are some healthy starter goals for 2016:

  • Simplify your coffee (no sugar, syrup or artificial additions!)

‘Tis the Season at The 101

It’s the season of giving and as a long time Northwest company, Pillar Properties is committed to giving back to the community.  As part of our Pillar Passions program, we select a local organization to support each quarter.

We just wrapped up our efforts for Toys for Tots and the results were spectacular.

Each of our properties and the team at the Seattle office put together a huge effort to help ensure that children in need were supported this holiday season. We also received donations from outside companies since our properties were official drop off locations for Toys for Tots.

Our total donation for Toys for Tots this year comes to $40,000 in toys and cash.  We think that is an incredible effort and a ridiculously large donation given the size of our company. Thank you to all of the residents and team members who helped make this effort successful!

DSC_2319[1] (2)To continue with the spirit of giving we made sure to give our residents a time to come together and celebrate the holidays with friends and neighbors. The 101 hosted a Holiday Cocktail Party to spread the holiday cheer. Residents sipped wine and enjoyed a catered Italian feast. When it came time for dessert residents gathered around the fireplace and exchanged stories and laughter. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Living the Dream at The 101

It’s been a fun couple of weeks here at The 101 with lots to celebrate!

The leaves and the temperatures are dropping so it was clearly time to celebrate with a festive fall-themed brunch. On a beautiful fall morning our residents woke up to the smell of freshly baked pastries.  No, we did not make them ourselves, we left that to the experts down the street at French Bakery. We also served fresh fruit and treated our residents to mimosas! Because really, how can you enjoy brunch cuddled around the fire without a little adult libation?

Fall Brunch at The 101

It’s hard to believe it but The 101 recently had its five year anniversary! It seems like only yesterday we were opening the doors of this beautiful new building and welcoming our first residents to their new homes. We are so grateful to the wonderful people who live here and wanted to celebrate our anniversary with them. We picked up cupcakes at the local cupcake shop Sweet Cakes and filled our lobby with countless tasty flavors. The champagne was flowing too as we toasted to five fabulous years at The 101. Cheers!

Folds of Honor

Every quarter Pillar Properties selects a non-profit organization to support as part of our Pillar Passions Program.  As a locally owned private family company, we want to do all we can to make a difference in our community.

This quarter Pillar Properties is supporting Folds of Honor in their efforts to provide educational scholarships to the family members of American service men and women who are injured or killed in the line of duty.

For the month of September we partnered with the area golf courses to support this worthy organization. Pillar Properties purchased special Titleist Pro-V1 Patriot Golf Day golf balls to support Folds of Honor to give to our residents when they played at the participating golf courses.

We also had events at each of our properties to support Folds of Honor. Our incredibly talented maintenance team constructed a full-size miniature golf hole for our residents and team members to putt on. All it took was a donation to Folds of Honor to test your putt putt skills! Every hole-in-one made earned you a raffle ticket to win some pretty awesome prizes including gift cards, golf gear and swag from the 2015 U.S. Open!

It was a beautiful evening for the Folds of Honor event at The 101, we set up the miniature golf hole right on the rooftop deck. But of course, what’s an event without food! We wanted to get a little more creative than just traditional BBQ so we had a catered taco bar with all of the fixings!

Residents racked up raffle tickets with their impressive putting skills! We loved to see how thrilled they were with their prizes.

It was a great evening putting for a great cause!

The 101 Potluck Turned Pizza Party

We like to think we are pretty flexible at The 101.  So when our recent potluck was planned for a day when the temperature soared to the mid 90’s, we quickly improvised.  Even though our rooftop deck is usually one of the best places to enjoy a summer day, we decided that it was just too dang hot to be outside at all and made our way back to air conditioned comfort.  The potluck quickly became an excellent pizza party!

Potluck 3

We will pick a cooler day to hit the roof for some grilling and have residents share their favorite dishes.  But we have to say that the last minute pizza party was a pretty great way to spend a hot afternoon!

Pillar Loves Pets: the Results are in!

The Third Annual Pillar Loves Pets Photo Contest is over and we want to thank everyone who participated! Honorable Mention goes out to The 101 residents Katie and Angela for sharing their furry friends with us! Raven Raine looks relaxed soaking in some rays on her lounge and we love seeing new resident Levi working on his moving badge!

First place went to the cuddling cats Wonton & Co. from our sister property The Lyric. The second and third place winners both live in The Century. Pipo, posing perfectly with his favorite toy took second place and Oscar, the sleepy puppy took third place.

This year the judges had no choice but to award the fourth place winner as well! Enzo from the Corydon was just too cute! All the adorable faces made picking the Judge’s Choice Award winner incredibly tough. But after much deliberation we decided we just couldn’t resist looks we were getting from Bruno and Bacon at Stadium Place.

Congratulations to all! Until next year!
